The book is one of a series of resource materials on the flora and fauna of the Philippines prepared for teachers and students of biology by the Science Education Center of the University of the Philippines. This volume attempts to present the readers with a broad view of the birds and mammals of the country.
The first part presents a representative array of Philippine birds, with slightly over a hundred illustrations. Each species included in this volume is identifies by its common name (in English), its scientific name and by at least two local names (Tagalog and Bisaya); and each is described in detail including measurements, food, nesting and breeding, and general habits.
The second part present the mammals of the Philippines following the system of classification with respect to orders established by Dr. G.G. Simpson. As with the birds, each mammal is identified by its common name, its scientific name and local names.
